KATIE WOODALL

Originally from the U.S. South, Katie holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree from the University of North Carolina. She has lived in Taos for 25 years, continually finding new ways to assemble images and textures inspired by the high desert. In her mixed media collage art, the natural feminine forms found so readily in the temperate moist richness of the South have given way over time to inquiries into the physical interactions of hot, cold, wet, and dry.

Her art translates her perceptions of essential elements into expressions of the sacred. In these intimate works, complex surface media is as much a part of the image as the color and form. Katie’s current explorations include diminutive icons, specific occasion altars, mixed media assemblage, and large acrylic and mixed media paintings. Having exhibited her art continuously since 1984, she has received awards in the categories of abstraction and mixed media. Katie is also an arts educator and designer well-versed in printmaking and bookmaking.
