Katie Woodall

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Katie Woodall has lived in Taos for 25 years, continually finding new ways to assemble images and textures inspired by this edge of mountain desert.  Originally from the deep South, the natural feminine forms found so readily in the temperate moist richness there have been replaced over time by inquiries into physical interactions of hot, cold, wet, dry. Perceptions of essential elements in a broad translation of the sacred appear in her “studies”.  Complex surface media is as much a part of the image as the color or form, often resulting in very unusual, intimate pieces.  Current explorations include diminutive icons, specific occasion altars, and mixed media assemblage with some large paintings.  Woodall has received awards in categories of abstraction and mixed media.  Showing continually since 1984, her one woman show in May, 2006 sold half the work exhibited.
