Hubertus Q. Winnubst

Artist Statement:

My work is an expression of my internal and purely visceral response to the “moment”, as it unfolds during the act of creation. For me, image-making is the result of an intuitive process that reacts to the stimuli within and around me; my thoughts, fears, joys, and passions as they unfold. I am informed by the seasons, music, and the environment of the world in which I am a participant. I am an evolving human, surrounded by an evolving world and my reactions to this world are what I strive to reveal on my canvases.

By birth, I am a Dutch, but have settled in Cedar Hill, Texas, and have traveled extensively throughout the west and Southwest. In particular, I am moved by the expanses, both intimate and monumental, of the environment surrounding Taos, New Mexico, where I have established a studio. There, I found myself enveloped by an almost magical “presence”. That presence invigorates and refreshes me. It compels to engage in expressive acts; to make my art.
